The Tooting Aquathlon - September 2017
On Saturday 16th September Total Motion Events brought you the third annual Tooting Aquathlon. Once again a fabulous group of aquathletes joined us, ranging from GB Age Group competitors all the way to keen first timers.
This is becoming an event renowned for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere providing the perfect environment for all to compete and come together to raise money for great local charities The Ickle Pickles Children's Charity and Royal Trinity Hospice.
Competitors raced over 5 lengths of the lido (450m) and 2 loops of the Common (5km) on a sunny Tooting morning. Most people opted for wetsuits in the 15 degree pool, although there has to be a special mention for those hardy souls who braved the cold and in particular Adam Harvey who received a huge boost to his fundraising in return for taking on the swim in Speedos - Top effort Adam!
At the cutting edge of the field Jessica Thorpe made it two wins from two aquathlon starts with a 21:19 5km following a 6:40 swim, this time taking the overall victory in addition to the female category. Ed Harman of Clapham Chasers, 'fresh' from Ironman Vichy won the male division with a total time of 31:35. Stephen Davey and Suresh Patel AKA SS Tooting took the team victory with an impressive 31:57.
Congratulations to all of the category winners, but more importantly thank you to all for coming out and supporting two fantastic charities and helping raise money to help these great causes continue the fantastic work that they do in SW London and beyond.
Until next time...
