This weekend saw seven of the Total Motion Towerrunners head to Europe for the annual Grand Prix race. Two races, two countries, one day! Final positions would be decided on the results of both races.
The first race was at 10:00 in Brno’s AZ Tower which is 30 floors and 700 steps. There were mixed feeling amongst most competitors after the race with some PBs achieved but most were slightly slower than last year. There were some surprises in the male results but there was still one more race to go...
The second race up the UFO Tower would be 23 floors and 430 steps up one leg of the tower. From the outside it barely looks big enough to run up. As a result, you can tell the steps are going to be steep!
Again some consistent results across the board (albeit slightly slower than last year) but surprise results on the male side meant a podium different to the norm.
The female result had a repeat podium from the 2017 event with 3rd place going to Austria’s Veronika Windisch, runner-up was Zuzana Krchova from the Czech Republic and Suzy Walsham from Australia took overall victory with a win in both races.
It was good to have a surprise result on the male podium with 3rd place going to Germany’s Christian Riedl (even though Christian had won the Brno race), in 2nd place was Tomas Celko from Slovakia (who took first at the UFO) and 1st place was Martin Tomica from the Czech Republic who was runner-up in both races but top on points. An amazing achievement for Martin whose highest position previously was 5th place!
Awesome results from the TMT Towerrunners too with PBs from most of the team.
In the open category, 3rd place was achieved by Total Motion’s Marina Belan with a great time of 5:37 in race 1 and 4:04 in race 2.
Although arguably the best result was from the youngest member of the TMT Team who has been listed in the UFO results with the name of Seakspeare. At 8 years old, his proud face on receiving an elite bib and to stand alongside the elite men at the top was worth everything! He managed a time of 5:55 - a great achievement on such a steep stair case and hopefully one to watch out for in the future, especially when his legs grow long enough to allow him to double-step! He has definitely made an impression on the other athletes from far and wide....!
